Like everyone else, I'm not just all work and no play. In fact, I have perfected a technique whereby I do absolutely no work before exams until the week before they begin. Then begins a mad, stress-filled rush to cram everything in my head and make sure it all stays there.
In order to fill up the free time I find myself having, I've picked up a recent hobby of travelling. I can't afford to 'properly' travel, so instead a friend and I catch a Ryanair flight out to somewhere in Europe and spend the day there.
Yes, you heard me right - we get up at 2am so we can get an early flight from Stansted. We fly out to a city, stay for the day and arrive back at Stansted at about 11pm that night.
Thankfully, due to caffeine, I don't have much trouble with sleep - and it's such fun. I'd never have been able to go anywhere if I'd waited until I could afford a hotel. Granted, the sights you can see are limited somewhat due to time constraints, but hey. Unless the city you're going to is absolutely massive then you should fit in the usual touristy things.
I also like combining travel with taking photographs. I'm weary of calling it 'photography', as I don't really think it is that. I don't want to be one of those people who's like 'Oooh, I love photography, me!' and then takes photos everyone thinks are sh*t. So I prefer to keep to taking photos. Here are some from the places I've been to this year..
Reichstag

Dom (Cathedral)

Beer, because the drinking age is 16 in Germany

USA, April (a school trip)
On Times Square

Capitol building

Oslo, June
Royal Palace

Stortingsbygningen

Opera House

Cornwall, August
Beach Tilt-Shift Attempt

I also went to Edinburgh in August, but unfortunately don't have any photos as I was too busy watching hilarious comedians (:
Stockholm, October
Guard, Royal Palace

Gamla Stan

So, yeah. That's it. I find that travelling keeps me somewhat sane. If I'm not excited about going somewhere, I'm planning where to go next. Currently on my list are Copenhagen, Amsterdam and Vienna. Let's see how many of them I can go to in 2012!
